Somerset Youth Dance Company

We have a few spaces left in the Somerset Youth Dance Company for the 2012 production of "Dance at the Movies" and  we will be holding one final audition on Thursday 22nd September at Birchfield Community Centre, Yeovil for anybody who missed the summer auditions, please contact me for further details.

"Dance at the Movies" will contain a variety of different dance styles including Ballet, Jazz, Swing, Rock and Roll, Lyrical, Disco, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Street Dance. This will give the students plenty of opportunity to learn new and varied dance styles and to improve their technique. As well as performing with the Company students are also selected to appear with professional touring and amateur companies, at charity events and concerts, former company members have also been offered television and film auditions. and contracts. Several senior students from the company are now training at full time vocational dance schools in London, others are performing with companies all over the world

The Somerset Youth Dance Company was launched  in September 2007. The Company was created in order to give talented young dancers who share a passion for dance the opportunity to work with other talented children, to expand  their knowledge of dance styles, to improve their technique and to perform together in high quality productions which raise  money for local charities.

Everybody Dance 2011

"Everybody Dance 2011" was a  6 show dance, music and singing spectacular which took place at The Octagon Theatre in Yeovil.

The show featured hundreds of local children aged from 2 ½ years to adults performing a variety of dance styles including Ballet, Hip Hop, Street Dance, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Jazz, Tap and Cheerleading. Proceeds from all of our shows are donated to local charities. " Everybody Dance 2011"  raised £1,300 which was donated to Yeovil District Hospital's Flying Colours Appeal to improve facilities in the women's hospital.

Pupils from the dance school are always in demand to perform locally with both amateur and professional companies. and we are very proud to be the school chosen to select children to appear in the professional pantomime at The Octagon Theatre each year.  In June 2011, 50 of our students had the amazing experience of performing in the  “Strictly Come Dancing Tour“  with Brian Foruna and Kristina Rihanoff.
