| Somerset Youth Dance Company
Dance is thriving in Somerset and Dorset and although many students attend dance classes, there are very few performance opportunities locally for them to show off their talents. In order to fill this void Helen Laxton and her assistant Catherine Sprackman created The Somerset Youth Dance Company. The Company allows talented, enthusiastic & energetic youngsters who share a passion for dance, the opportunity to expand their knowledge of dance styles, to improve their technique and to perform in front of large audiences. There are many benefits to be gained from performing in front of a live audience including increased confidence, improved technical and performance skills, improved levels of concentration, a great sense of teamwork and of course it's lots of fun! We always allow the students to select which charities they would like to donate to with the funds raised from their performances, to date hundreds of pounds have been donated to the Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance and Over The Wall, a charity which provides holidays for children with life limiting illnesses As well as performing with the Company students are selected to appear with professional and amateur dance companies, at charity events, fashion shows, concerts and television and film auditions. Most recently students were asked to perform with the professional stars of Srtrictly Come Dancing on their UK Tour, a fantastic experience for all. Many past Company members are now in full time Vocational training or dancing professionally. The Somerset Youth Dance Company is for students from the age of 6 years to adult and is open to all dancers in the South Somerset and West Dorset areas.
