The Somerset Youth Dance Company 2008

Due to the popularity of The Helen Laxton School of Dance " Everybody Dance" shows, the benefits that the children gain from performing and the constant supply of requests for us to provide children to perform at local events, we decided to create a children's dance company in Somerset.

The dance company will perform a major production in March on alternate years. Children from the company may also be asked to perform at charity events, fashion shows etc at any time throughout the year. The company is for children from the age of seven years to adult and os open to all dancers in the South Somerset and West Dorset areas.

The first production which took place in April 2008 was a huge success and raised £250 for the Somerset & Dorset Air Ambulance. The show consisted of 10 themed sections each containing 4 -5 dances in a variety of styles including Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Street Dance and Rock and Roll. This gave the children plenty of opportunity to learn new and varied dance styles and techniques.

Hannah Crichton-Smith, an 18 year old dancer from the Company has successfully auditioned to dance in a BBC film which is being recorded in May 2008

The next Somerset Youth Dance Company production will take place in March 2010
