Head of Modern Dance

Catherine began dancing when she was three years old. When Catherine was 12 she moved to Yeovil and began training at the Helen Laxton School of Dance. Catherine studied Ballet, Modern and Tap and has passed numerous dance examinations in all forms of dance. When Catherine was 18 she began her training to become a qualified dance teacher specializing in Modern Dance. Catherine also teaches Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap and the adult dance classes at the school and has choreographed many excellent dances for stage shows.  

Modern Dance Classes

Modern Dance classes are carefully structured to strengthen muscles. loosen joints and stretch the body. Modern dance is very energetic and fulfilling with lots of fun thrown in. Modern dance trains very versatile and disciplined dancers and is very useful for students who wish to pursue theatre and television work.

The school offers the following modern dance classes:-

Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance

Primary - Grade 5 for children from 5 years of age upwards.

Intermediate Foundation - Advanced for senior students.

Jazz Dance

Jazz awards -  bronze, silver and gold, funky and fun performance awards.

Disco Dance Classes

Fun jazz / disco classes - energetic, lively classes where you learn a dance routine that you might see on Top of the Pops !! The whole class is lots of fun and is taught to the current pop music.

Adult Jazz Dance Classes 

Fun filled classes to get you fit and keep you fit. A combination of warm-up exercises, stretching, strengthening and toning exercises and a new funky routine to work on every term.

Hip Hop and Street Jazz Dance Classes are also available

New Modern and Tap Dance Uniform

The New School Modern Uniform now available black hooded sweatshirts, white T shirts and black jazz trousers. The design was drawn by Kim Tulloch
